BACKGROUND
I began my study of piano as a young child, at age 4, studying first with my father who was a professional musician, teacher, and Library Director. I continued my studies with local teachers on Long Island, New York, where I grew up. I then studied music for several years at San Francisco State University with William Corbett Jones before I transferred to the University of California at Berkeley where I continued my study in harpsichord with Laurette Goldberg. My bachelor's degree was obtained from UC Berkeley in 1987 in liberal arts.
My first career was as a statistical programmer. I enjoyed challenging work in clinical trials and other research settings until I effectively retired from private industry to focus on teaching. I enjoy working with young students and have limited my practice to children ages 4 to 18, accommodating up to 20 students (max).
In order to facilitate my recent career change, I completed an online MSEd degree at the University of New England (2018). My research googlesite provides additional information about my degree and Action Research Study.
CURRENT AFFILIATIONS
I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the Maryland State Music Teachers Association, Howard County, Greater Laurel, and the Greater Columbia Music Teachers Associations. I also have students in other parts of the country and am affiliated with the Teaching Associations in those areas. Membership in the Music Teaching Associations is invaluable as it also provides opportunities for my students to participate in festivals, recitals, competitions, and other performances, in addition to my studio recitals.
As my time permits, I sing in the Resurrection Choir in Burtonsville, MD.
